Behind the Scenes: Crafting a Handpainted Shaker Kitchen
Take a peek inside our Grundisburgh workshop as we walk through the making of a stunning handpainted shaker kitchen for a period farmhouse in Suffolk.
Every Touchwood kitchen begins as a conversation — an exchange of ideas, wishes, and the practicalities of daily life. In this post, we take you behind the scenes of one of our most recent projects: a handpainted shaker kitchen for a beautifully restored period farmhouse near Framlingham.
Our cabinet makers started with sustainably sourced hardwood, carefully selecting each board for grain and colour consistency. The in-frame doors were constructed using traditional mortise and tenon joinery — a technique that ensures decades of reliable use.
Once assembled, the entire kitchen was hand-finished in a warm sage green, with brushed brass hardware selected by the client to complement the original stone flags and exposed timber beams.
The result is a kitchen that feels entirely at home in its setting — timeless, functional, and unmistakably Touchwood.
